AWARD OF CERTIFICATES

Certificates of attendance and performance for the first half term were awarded to students at the various assemblies prior to the Halloween break.  The attendance certificates recognise students who have achieved 100% attendance from the start of the school year.  The performance certificates recognise students who have excellent records of cooperation, homework and conduct since the start of the year.  Well done to all who received certificates.

GLENDALOUGH OUTING

The 1st year students who travelled to Glendalough for a days hill walking were awarded certificates to recognise their achievements in completing a 10km walk in the National Park.  A big thank you to all teachers involved in organising the walk and, in particular, the 1st year Year Head, Ms Smith.

TALENT SHOW

Calling all students with musical or acting talent.  There will be a talent contest held at the end of November which will be open to all students in the school.  Students interested in participating in this contest should speak with Ms Horkan as soon as possible.  Auditions will be held on Wednesdays over the coming weeks.

FUND RAISING

Over €1000 was raised by the students and parents before the Halloween break.  This event is one of a series being arranged by the Students’ Council and the Parents’ Council in an effort to raise €18,000 for the Parents’ Association.  The total raised will go towards supporting student services in the school and, in particular, will assist the production of a school show in the Mermaid Theatre next March.

LEAVING CERTIFICATE APPLIED

The twenty Leaving Cert Applied students are on work experience for the next fortnight.  Most students arranged their work experience with the support of the Guidance Counsellor and the LCA Coordinator.  The remainder had work experience sourced for them by the school.  We wish them well in their positions over the next fortnight and hope that they return to school with valuable experience of what working life is like.

OPEN NIGHT

An early reminder to parents and children in the community that our Annual Open Night will be held on Wednesday December 6th 2006.  Open Night affords parents and children the opportunity to view the facilities and meet with teachers and students in the school.  A full range of activities will be held on the night in what we expect will be a very enjoyable night for all who attend.  More details will follow in the coming weeks.
