PRIMARY SCHOOL TRANSFER PROGRAMME

On Wednesday November 21st, 168 pupils from all of our four ‘catchment/feeder’ schools visited Coláiste Chraobh Abhann as part of our ‘Primary to Secondary School Transfer Programme’.  Both pupils and teachers enjoyed the experience and the day proved to be a great success.  Well done to all involved!

 

OPEN NIGHT

Open Night will be held on Thursday 6th December from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.  Open Night affords parents and children from the community and beyond an opportunity to visit the school, view its facilities and meet with staff and students.  We hope it will be a fun filled, eventful and entertaining evening for all who attend.

 

TALENT SHOW

Our annual Talent Show will be taking place this Friday afternoon.  Students have been busy rehearsing in recent weeks.  This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their many talents and is guaranteed to be a most enjoyable afternoon.  Any interested students should fill out an application form in the school.

 

PRIVATE MEMBERS DRAW

The second and third draws in the Parents’ Association Private Members Draw took place on Tuesday November 20th and Friday November 23rd at morning assembly.  The prize winners of draw 2 were 1st Prize – Kilcoole Athletic Club; 2nd Prize – Noel and Jessica Golden, Kilcoole and 3rd Prize – Ms Mairéad Grennan, Kilcoole.  The winners in draw 3 were 1st Prize – Archer family, Greystones; 2nd Prize – Aurisch family, Greystones and 3rd Prize – Robert McMillan, Greystones. There are seven more draws with the tenth draw offering a first prize of €1000.  Tickets may still be bought from the school at €20 each.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

On Tuesday, November 13th, 19 students took part in the Wicklow Cross Country League in St. Gerards Bray.  The students took part in the U13, U15, U17 and U19 events.  At the end of a great day, the students returned with four medals, the winners being Aisling Carthy, Sarah Kavanagh, Seán Ryder and Patrick Costello.  Their next event will be in the Leinster League in the coming weeks.  Training continues every Thursday from 4-5pm.  Well done to all involved!

 

FIRST YEAR BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL
Congratulations to the First Year Boys Gaelic Football team who beat St.Brendans 9-5 to 4-5 on Thursday, November 15th.  After a five goal blitz in the first fifteen minutes, St. Brendans battled back, but our lads were too strong and ran out worthy winners.  This was a great team performance, with Stephen McGuinness protecting the goall, Hugh McDaid and James Lennox defending brilliantly and Luke Martin covering a lot of ground in midfield.  Ian Farrell and Ciaran Lawless were the main instigators of the attack.  Well done lads!

 

GOLF

Well done to our First Tee golf team who beat De La Salle Wicklow and St. Brendans Bray last week.  The players involved were Darragh Browne, Kevin Carthy, William Owens and Niall Byrne.

 

U18 BOYS SOCCER

Hard luck to our U18 Boys Soccer team, who lost their match against De La Salle Wicklow on Wednesday, November 14th.  The boys put in a good performance throughout the match, which ended on a final scoreline of 6-2.  The scorers on the day for Coláiste Chraobh Abhann were Austin Gaskin and Shane Mooney.

 

U16 BOYS BASKETBALL

Commiserations to our U16 Boys Basketball team who lost against Arklow Community College on Thursday, November 15th.  The boys played very well in the match and were unfortunate to be beaten by 39-18.  The players were: Conor Verbruggen, Cathal O Sullivan, Peter Scales, Nick Smith, Philip Swords, Finbarr Howell, Shane Magee, Kurt Starke, Darren Byrne, Eadbhard Butler, James Scullion and Jason Roche.

 

U14 BOYS SOCCER

Our U14 Boys Soccer team played in the quarter final of the Wicklow/Wexford league against St.Brendans on Tuesday, November 13th.  The scores were level at 1-1 at half-time, but injuries on the team forced two of our players off the field.  The boys were unfortunate to be beaten in the end, ending the match 5-2.

 

U14 BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL

The U14 Boys Gaelic Football team recorded another victory in Carnew on Thursday last, November 23rd.  Despite having three penalties awarded against them, the CCA footballers battled hard and were two points up at half-time.  CCA pulled away in the second half, thanks to Man of the Match performances from Ronan Marah and Daire Killen.  Scorers on the day were: Daniel Kavanagh (0-2), Kevin Carthy (1-1), David Crosbie (1-1), Darren Gammell (0-3), Daire Killen (0-7), Niall Crosbie (0-1) and Peter Burke (1-0).

Final result: CCA 3-15   Carnew 2-5

 

TRANSITION YEAR
The Transition Year students took part in a film workshop on Friday last, November 23rd.  The workshop was facilitated by Mr.Ger Carey.  The students took part in the making of short films, focussing on the different techniques of film making through the ages.  The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and students will see the final product later on in the year!

Good luck to all Transition Year students who have set up their Mini-Companies within the school.  Products range from keyrings to Christmas Cards, Odds and Ends to Chocaholic products.  We wish them well in their enterprising ventures!
