Wicklow and Bray People weekly School Report

SENIOR GAELIC FOOTBALL

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann 3-13                                         Abbey Community College 1-5

In the Wicklow Schools ‘B’ quarter final, our seniors had a big win over the Abbey Community College to reach the semi-final of this competition.  Despite conceding a goal to the Abbey in the first few minutes, we quickly got into stride and led at half-time by 2-5 to 1-0, the goals coming from Seán Ryder, after some great teamwork and a Conor Byrne penalty.  The Abbey came into the game more in the second half but Billy Clarkson’s goal in the final quarter was a killer blow to their challenge.  Kevin Condon had an excellent game in the goal throughout.  Outfield, effort and teamwork were the cornerstones for this victory.  The team and scorers were: Kevin Condon, Michael Heffernan, Shane Mooney, Philip O Connor (0-1), Matthew Mannix, John Halpin, Shane Keogh (0-1), Conor Byrne (1-5), Billy Clarkson (1-0), Seán Ryder (1-0), Michael Hackett, Christy Power, Gerard Synnott (0-1), Gary Elliott, Colin Odlum (0-3).  Substitutes on the day were: Matthew Gilbert (0-2), Rory McNicholas, Kurt Starke, Vincent Hunt, Niall Crosbie, Darren Farrell, Darren Gammell, Austin Gaskin.

WICKOW COUNTY ENTERPRISE FINALS

A great success for our Transition Year students at the Wicklow County Enterprise Finals held recently.  Clodagh Harvey and Jessica Morrissey won an award for the Best Stand and Display, for their business ‘Santa’s Little Helpers’. Overall county winners and Best Wicklow Enterprise went to ‘Keytimes’, the students involved being Caroline O Grady, Lisa McHugh, Joe Bradley, Gareth Byrne and Peter Scales.  They beat stiff competition from nine schools in the county and will go on to represent the county at the National Finals in Tullamore in May.  Other students who took part in the competition were Alice Hartigan, Paula McDyer, Kate Douglas, Amy Diviney and Clíodhna O Neill.  Well done to all involved!

JUNIOR BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL

The Junior Boys Gaelic Football team put in a fine performance last Friday against St. Killian’s of Bray to claim a convincing victory with Darren Gammell, Daire Killen, Matthew Mannix and Gary Elliott dominating the game around the middle of the park.  Niall Crosbie, Ger Byrne and Seán Heffernan were amongst the scorers, whilst Ronan Marah and James Kavanagh did not give their opponents an inch of space at the back.  Coláiste Chraobh Abhann march on to the next stage of the ‘A’ Championship and based on this performance, the team could do very well this year.
