Wicklow and Bray People weekly School Report

MOCK EXAMS

Best wishes to all third and sixth year students who are beginning their mock exams in the coming days.  We hope that all the hard work will pay off.

CAO APPLICATIONS

Sixth year students completed their CAO form by the early deadline, January 20th.  This is the first cohort of Leaving Certificate students to complete these college applications in our school.

TRANSITION YEAR

All Transition Year students have been doing mock interviews this week as part of the ‘Be Real Game’.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Speakers from Dún Laoghaire College of Further Education and Bray Institute of Further Education recently visited the school to speak to sixth year students about PLC courses.

UNDER-16 BOYS SOCCER

Our U16 boys soccer team had a great win in the Wicklow/Wexford league semi-final last week against Wexford CBS.  The final score was 2-0, with goals from Peter Burke and Gary Elliott, and a great team performance all round.  Man of the match was hard to choose and was awarded to Daire Killen from third year.  Well done to all the lads and good luck in the final.

HISTORY SOCIETY

This month saw the foundation of the History Society with the aim of promoting History in the school.  The first activity of the History Society took place on Wednesday last, January 21st, when the students visited the Croke Park museum.  2009 marks the 125th anniversary of the GAA so the tour was seen as a timely opportunity to deepen the students’ understanding of the role of the GAA in Irish History.  It is envisaged that the society will facilitate activities each term.  The society is co-ordinated by Mr.Evoy and Ms.Cowap, and students Jamie Curtis and Adam Dalby were elected to the positions of Chairperson and Treasurer respectively.
