Wicklow and Bray People weekly School Report
JUNIOR BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL
Well done to the boys of the Junior Gaelic Football panel who enjoyed a very sporting contest against St Kevin's in Dunlavin yesterday. The footballers of CCA never let the heads drop despite coming up against a very strong Dunlavin side. Ciaran Lawless and Stephen Davis showed great commitment at midfield, while Gavin Dunne made a serious impact when he came on with 10 minutes to go and scored a goal and won a penalty, converted superbly by Stuart Synnott. Man-of-the-match goes to Ian Farrell at wing back who worked tirelessly for the 60 minutes and indeed Ian always takes tremendous pride when wearing the amber and black of CCA. Final score: St Kevin's 3-9 CCA 2-4.
FIRST YEAR INTERVIEWS
First Year Interviews were held at the school on Wednesday 14th last for all 110 students who will join our school community next September. These interviews represent the 7th stage of 10 overall stages in the school's Primary to Secondary Transition Programme. We welcome the students and their families to our school community and look forward to working with them for many years to come.
BARCELONA TRIP
Our second year students recently visited Barcelona for the annual school trip. The photos from the trip are now on the school website, www.colaisteca.ie.
NEW PREFECTS
Best wishes to sixteen fifth year students who have been chosen as prefects for the coming school year. The prefects were nominated by all students in fifth year, along with the staff in the school. Many thanks to our outgoing prefects in sixth year who did a marvellous job throughout the year.
TABLE QUIZ
Well done to Katie O Connor, Amanda Carthy and Sara Cleary from class 5RDR who arranged a table quiz for our first year students last Thursday. The quiz, which was set up by the girls as a mini company, was thoroughly enjoyed by all students.
GERMAN EXCHANGE
Thirteen Transition Year students are currently in Wurzburg in Germany, as part of the German exchange. During their stay, they will visit Rococo Palace and garden, take in a guided tour of Wurzburg and spend an evening bowling. They will also be given a guided tour of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of the Residence Palace.
WELL DONE
Congratulations to Naomi Meakin in sixth year, who recently took part in, and won the Leinster championship in Boxing in the category Youth 2 70kg. This victory qualified Naomi for the All-Ireland championships, which she also won. She now holds the title of All-Ireland champion. Naomi trains in the same club as Katie Taylor. According to her coach, Naomi “fought her way through and achieved her goal.” Well done Naomi!
GOOD LUCK
Best wishes to our third year and sixth year students who are currently doing their Home Economics practicals and French orals. Last week, the students completed their Music practical Irish oral exams respectively.
