Well done to all students and teachers who recently took part in the County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee Environmental Awareness competition. The awards ceremony took place in the Brockagh Centre in Laragh. Special congratulations to the students involved in the project entitled ‘Silent Night’ which recreated the nativity scene through papier maché. This project won first prize in its category. Well done also to Emma Kavanagh and Bella Leone who won a special award for their project, entitled ‘How Your Shoe Choice Affects Your Feet’. This project had previously won a display award at the Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin.
SPORTS DAY
Our annual Sports Day took place on Tuesday last, May 18th. All students enjoyed the day immensely, taking part in many activities including Long Puc, Soccer Sixes, Penalty Kick, 1500m, 100m, 400m Relay to name but a few. We also welcomed sporting great Mick O Dwyer and local environmentalist Eamon de Buitléar, who were present for the raising of our recently coveted Green Flag.
JUNIOR BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL
The boys of our Junior Gaelic Football team were today crowned champions of Wicklow in a very competitive game against Avondale. CCA got off to a great start with an opportunistic goal from David Crosbie. Points soon followed from Daniel Argiriu and Ciarán Lawless but Avondale responded quickly with a well taken goal. Kilcoole's half time lead of three points was almost instantly shattered in the second half by an Avondale goal. The Rathdrum side soon took the lead and CCA were down by four points. However, CCA showed great determination. Excellent play at the back by full back Dermot O'Brien and wing back, Andrew Burke spurred on the forwards to go for the win and a superbly taken goal by Karim Hamdona at corner forward tied the game. Stuart Synnott at centre forward scored the final point of the game to give CCA a cushion of five points and despite a late goal by Avondale, CCA held on for the win.
Result: CCA 4 - 15 Avondale 4 – 10
Man of the Match: Dermot O'Brien and Stuart Synnott
