WICKLOW COUNTY ENTERPRISE AWARDS
Colaiste Chraobh Abhann was well represented at the Wicklow County Enterprise Board Student Awards in Wicklow County Campus on Tuesday last. This is the culmination of 6 months hard work as Transtion Year students from all over County Wicklow displayed their businesses to the judges. Colaiste Chraobh Abhann were awarded second place award for one of their companies 'Pimp my Gear'. Students Ronan Marah, Damon Zund, Neil Foot and Robert Scott wowed the judges with their musical presentation and innovative product involving graffiti art on personal belongings. Special mention also due to Keelin Drew, Saoirse O'Neill and Suzanne Codd of ‘WedDebs’ and Kyle Corcoran, Kelvin Barr, Liam De Hora and Conor Black from ‘Special Tees’ who also impressed the judges.
BANK OF IRELAND ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AWARD
Congratulations to Caroline O'Grady who has been selected as the winner of a Bank of Ireland student award in the category of entrepreneurial spirit. Caroline is the managing director of ‘Keytimes’, a business selling portable transport information devices, and is being acknowledged for her innovation and her ability to lead a team during her Transition Year mini company. This award is a great honour for Caroline and for Coláiste Chraobh Abhann. Caroline is being presented with her award at a function in the House of Lords, College Green on Thursday 25th March.
TRANSITION YEAR BANK
The Transition Year students involved in the school bank took part in the Regional Finals in Fitzpatricks Hotel Killiney on the 5th of March. Each student dressed in fancy dress outfits from the 80's and put together an exhibition of our work. Each student met a team of three judges and underwent a series of questions. We received excellent feedback from the judges but unfortunately only one team goes through for the national finals in May. The students involved are: Ronan Maher-Manager, Cass Du Berry, Nathan Doyle-Teller, Megan Lee-Teller, Aoife Shortt-Auditor, Laura Matthews-Marketing Manager, and Vicky Turner-Teller.
COMENIUS TRIP
The Comenius trip to Ferrol in Northern Spain took place from Wednesday March 3rd to Sunday March 7th. Three Transition Year students stayed with host families and had the opportunity to experience Spanish culture and school life. The students visited the locality which included La Coruna and Santiago de Compostella. The 6 European Comenius schools developed a European cookbook. It was an enjoyable and successful trip for all involved: Ms Cowap, Ms Hennessy, Oisin O Neill, Fiona Farrell and Laura Matthews.
JUNIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL
Congratulations to the Junior Girls Football team who beat Coláiste Ráithín last Thursday, March 18th, with a final scoreline of 5-3 to 2-4. Great second half performances by all involved, with special mention going to Aisling McCabe, Jessica Shortt, Sarah Kavanagh and Katie Coleman in goals. The girls now face Baltinglass in the semi-final of the league. Well done to all!
YOUNG SOCIAL INNOVATORS
Well done to the Transition Year YSI team who performed their song ‘Inclusion’ at the Speakouts in the Red Cow on Thursday last, March 18th. This is the first part of their project, ‘The Power of I’, in which they are competing as part of the Young Social Innovators course.
COMPUTER CLASSES
A notice to all members of our wider school community that the computer classes being provided by our Transition Year students will not take place this Friday, March 26th, due to the students being away on work experience. The classes will resume after the Easter break.
SCHOOL TRIP
Our annual second year trip takes place from this Thursday March 25th until Sunday March 28th. This year’s destination is the beautiful city of Barcelona, where students will take in a visit of Montserrat and the city itself.
SCHOOL SHOW
Well done to all our students who took part in our recent production of ‘Back to the 80s’. The show was a massive success in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray and was thoroughly enjoyed by all audiences. A big thank you to staff members who helped out back stage for each of the performances.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Best wishes to our Transition Year students who are currently out on work experience.
EASTER HOLIDAYS
A reminder to all parents and guardians that the school will close this Friday, March 26th at 12.30p.m. for the Easter holidays. The school will re-open on Monday April 12th.
