Wicklow and Bray People weekly School Report
GIVE IT A SWIRL
On Friday the 25th of September the Transition Year students held a coffee morning for the people in their community. With a large range of sweet treats, some delightful entertainment as well as a guided tour around the school. For many it brought back some happy memories of their time in school and how school life has developed and changed over the years. This was the first community day where the Transition Year students, in a association with The Young Social Innovators Programme, will be joining forces with people in the community to make our world a better place. We would also like to thank Ann Duffy for her beautiful donation of flowers which was won by Eileen Kinsella.
The students also took part in litter picking in the local area. Many thanks to all who participated in this worthwhile day.
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK
Our annual Anti-Bullying Week took place in the school last week. Students were addressed in each assembly about the importance of creating a safe environment within the school. Students expressed their own feelings towards the issue of bullying through poetry, essay writing and poster competitions.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Our Student Council elections took place last Thursday. Each year group was given an opportunity to vote for a boy and girl to represent their year on the council. We would like to express our thanks to the outgoing council for their hard work last year. Best wishes to our new council as they take up their new positions within the school.
TRANSITION YEAR
Our Transition Year students recently visited Causey Farm in County Meath. This two-day team-building experience was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved. While on the farm, students were afforded many opportunities – from milking cows, baking homemade bread and taking a bodhrán lesson to bog-trotting and taking in a guided tour of Slane Castle! Many thanks to all teachers who accompanied the students on this fantastic trip.
HISTORY TRIP
The annual CCA Historical Society tour took place last Wednesday, 30th September. This year's tour to historic Glasnevin Cemetery proved very popular as 65 students took part. Mr Evoy, Ms Cowap, Ms Mitchell and Ms J.Byrne accompanied the students. The tour guide, Shane Mac Thomáis, superbly brought the rich history of the place to life and the students enjoyed listening to his stories about patriots such as Daniel O’Connell, Michael Collins and Countess Markievicz. Well done to all of the students who took part in the event and well done in particular to Jamie Curtis (chairman) and Adam Dalby (secretary) of sixth year who helped to organize the event. Many thanks to the CCA Parents’ Council who generously sponsored the event.
PREFECT TRAINING
Our prefects recently took part in Leadership Development Training with Lucca Leadership. Sixteen prefects took part in this two-day training course, which was part funded by the Parents Council, to whom we are very grateful for their support of this training. The students explored their role as prefects and how to make these roles more effective. The training also involved them in team building activities and role play. It was a great success.
SCHOOL MUSICAL
Roles have now been cast for our annual school musical, ‘Back To The 80s’, which will take place in the Mermaid Arts Centre next March. Over 300 students attended the auditions for the musical, which were held by Siobhan Gallagher and Yvonne Prendergast of ‘Shevaun’.
CAMOGIE TRAINING
Camogie training for Junior and Senior students continues on Wednesday afternoons from 2p.m. to 3p.m. on the school pitch.
SPANISH STUDENTS
Farewell to our international students from Castilla La Mancha in Spain, who spent the last two weeks in our school. The students attended classes with the Irish students in the morning, giving them an insight into the Irish education system.
SWEDISH VISITORS
Valkommen to our Swedish exchange visitors from Wieselgrensskolan who are arriving to our school today, Wednesday. The students and staff will spend six days in Ireland, in which they will visit Glendalough, participate in an afternoon of traditional Irish activities - Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic Football and Irish Dancing, and attend a concert in the school. The students will be staying with the families of our own students, affording them the opportunity to see what family life in Ireland is like.
