JUNIOR GAELIC FOOTBALL

CCA                    9-9                                     De La Salle                      1-7

In the first round of the Junior Championship, we had an emphatic win over De La Salle Wicklow at Newcastle.  It was a great team effort all through the game, but special mention to the two corner forwards, Conor McKenna (3-1) and Shane Magee (2-3), and the Man of the Match Christy Power at midfield.  The team and scorers were: Danny Kavanagh, Michael Heffernan, Philip O Connor, Jason Roche, Danny Curran, Shane Keogh, Darren Gammell, Gary Elliot, Christy Power (0-1), Ciarán Byrne (0-1), Matthew Mannix (0-1), Daire Killen (0-1), Conor McKenna (3-1), Kurt Starke (1-2), Shane Magee (2-3).  Subs on the day were: Conor Earley, Darren White, Peter Burke (2-0), Darragh Browne, Liam de Hora, Karl Carthy and Shane Doyle.

U14 GAELIC FOOTBALL

Hard luck to the players of the U14 Gaelic Football team who ended their participation in this year’s South Leinster Championship after losing narrowly to Heywood Community School from Laois in the semi-final last Thursday.  CCA started well with a stunning long range point from Danny Kavanagh and a well taken goal by Daire Killen.  However the Laois side came back and CCA led by only three points at half time, and with a strong wind against them in the second half, it was always going to be difficult.  Despite heroic performances from Darren Gammell, Ronan Marah and James Kavanagh, the Laois side came out on top by 4-4 to 2-6 at the final whistle.  Man of the Match award goes to Ciarán Lawless of 1SCY, who put in an outstanding performance at left full-back.

U19 GIRLS BASKETBALL

A group of the U19 Girls Basketball team have recently completed their Introductory Basketball Coaching course.  The girls will be assisting Ms. Farrell and Ms. Rabeyrolles with coaching first and second year girls basketball, with a view to doing their Level One Coaching Course.  The girls involved are: Una Britton, Liz Daly, Lynne Keenan, Lisa Coffey, Laura Greene and Leigh O Neill.

WELL DONE

Congratulations and well done to Oisin Nolan, Una Britton, Jessica Golden and Elizabeth Daly, who recently competed in, and won, the Hibernian Community Action Awards.  The students took part in the competition as part of the Safe Driving Projects in Secondary Schools.  This involved our students looking at Kilcoole and considering how safe the roads were for students attending the school.  They put in a huge amount of work and effort into their project which was aptly called Speed Kills Obey Our Limits.  The final took place last Thursday when the four students emerged victorious.  They won a plaque and €5000 to be used by the school to promote road safety in the school community.  Many thanks also to Ms. Smith and Ms. Driver who worked with Oisin and the girls on their project.  Well done!
