The First Tee ceased its operations in Ireland in Summer 2015
The First Tee was created by the World Golf Foundation in 1997 to introduce young people of all backgrounds to the game of golf, particularly those who had not previously experienced the game. The First Tee’s mission is ‘to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programmes that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf’. It promotes the personal and social development of young people through its nine core values:
Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence,
Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy and Judgement.
The First Tee provides ‘The First Tee Life Skills Experience’ in which participants learn how values learned on the golf course can transfer to other parts of their lives. Students are taught about responsibility, courtesy, how to make decisions by thinking about the possible consequences, how to set goals and maintain a positive attitude. In time, The First Tee of Ireland will create other opportunities including access to a Scholars Program that will lead to higher educational opportunities for successful participants.
October 24th 2005 saw the official launch of The First Tee of Ireland, which took place at Druids Glen Golf Resort. This is the first Chapter of The First Tee not alone in Ireland but in Europe also. Druids Glen Golf Resort is the first Affiliate Venue of The First Tee of Ireland and will be the venue for the program in your area. The program will be delivered under the guidance of their Head Teaching Professional Mr George Henry.
Coláiste Chraobh Abhann is very privileged and proud to be associated with such a project.
